I don't pay much attention to it; it's politics as usual.

I believe we need a reform, hopefully this one will be the start of some positive changes. Here is an interesting article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1447687/
I could not really answer the poll the options were to limited. Many people are forced into bankruptcy over their health. I do not agree with the current bill however I also feel it is better than nothing. I am actually a supporter of a single payor system such as Denmark has where all are cared for. Other countries have this as well. The media keeps squeaking about rationing which is ridiculous because we also have rationing and we also have long wait times especially in HMO's. I just read of someone who was in the emergency room for 2 hours and came out with a $12,000.00 bill now that is scary. The Health Insurance companies have a death grip on Healthcare and with that only the very poor or the very rich can get healthcare, the people of middle income suffer the most. The poor won't have to pay and the rich can afford to pay. I would suggest doing some reading up on Denmark and how they feel about their healthcare system. At least the bill does address pre-existing conditions for which people are discriminated against for having. I recently read about 2 sons who wanted to donate a kidney to their father but because his condition had a heriditary factor involved. The sons could not be tested because if it was found that they had the disease they would then have a pre-existing condition and would not be able to obtain health insurance. To me this about money not life and health. I would gladly pay higher taxes and see everyone treated equally in this country with a single payor system. Also Denmark has an option if you have the money you can have another option which would be much like the PPO plan in this country. I currently know people who are having to drop their PPO plans for HMO because companies are shifting more of the cost onto the employee because right now insurance companies are raising their rates again. Medicine should be about saving lives and caring for all people of the country. This should be a right not a privilage.
In the current proposal, the government will not make any healthcare decisions for individuals. There is a provision for a public option health insurance that will compete with private insurers. At this moment, there is no real competition with private insurance companies, and the result has been disasterous. Please urge your representatives to vote to change the healthcare system now.
I do not agree with the current version of the healthcare reform bill. I have read it and do not want the government to have control over my healthcare decisions. They have failed with every other program they have tried to managed and they will fail at this as well. Reform is needed but not in this manner. What needs to be reformed are the insurance companies and the way they deal with physicians and patients, denying services and payments. It is hard enough to get the care and medication we need now and if the government gets involved it will be worse and people will be dying due to the fact they will be denied further care because the government does not understand healthcare and can not manage it.
Excuse me for being blunt, but this is just Rush Limbaugh-istic tripe. In the first place, there is no provision whatsoever for the control of medical decisions in HR3200. The bill madates levels of insurance, removes the restrictions on pre-existing conditions, and establishes a so-called competitive measure to challenge the insurance companies to lower their prices which, in all honesty are already both competitively priced and regulated through state laws. It's not that insurance carriers need more regulation or competition. Neither measure would have any impact at all on the REAL issue - the out of control spiraling cost of care services. I fail to see how the situation could get any worse than it already is. HR3200 would do absolutely nothing to mitigate the cost of care or shift the financial burdens off the end consumer's shoulders. For that, we'd need REAL health care reform. I do not support this bill, but it has nothing to do with the media scare tactics I hear on TV or radio.
I do not agree with this bill either and not because of media scare tactics. What concerns me, is the mandate that would require businesses to provide health insurance and all individuals to have insurance. This is going to create such a demand that premiums will have to increase or coverage will be severely limited. We already have a problem in that area. I fear to see the kind of coverage a mid to low income person would have access to, based on what they can afford to pay, for the insurance they are required to purchase. Tax break or not, people are already struggling, I just don't see how this is going to work for the average person. Businesses often use benefits to attract quality employees, if all businesses are required to provide health coverage, then the competition for quality employees is greatly reduced and increases costs even more so for employers. In addition, if 70% of our nation (including medical doctors) do not support this bill, the government needs to go back to the drawing board and serve the people. I do like the idea of cooperatives, improve on that.
